DETAILS OF SATSANG FOR MAY

Emergence of the Tattvas

with Kapilmurti

May 18th, 6pm EST

In the Upaniṣads we find a model for Creation. It consists of twenty-four components. These twenty-four tattvas constitute the created world.

In its full form, the model beautifully integrates the guṇas, the five elements, the three bodies (causal, subtle, and gross), the three states of experiences, the five sheaths (kośas), the aspects of the mind, the sense capacities, the organs ofaction, the prāṇas, and the physical body.

What is the purpose of this model?

The Upaniṣads explore the nature of reality, consciousness, and the relationship between the individual soul and the ultimate reality. In this exploration the Upaniṣads must necessarily deal with the empirical reality we face everyday. Our experiences must be explained. Indeed, the Upaniṣads examine the content of all human experiences. To facilitate this endeavor the Upaniṣads present us with a model, a point of view, which serves as a framework within which we mayunderstand our experiences.

We will delve into this remarkable model, not with a view to engage in philosophical enquiry, but to help us appreciate the splendor, profundity, and vastness of the vision of the Upaniṣads as well as to better understand the structure of practices presented to us by the spiritual masters to guide our journey to the core of our own being
